Bhushan, if you take the computer-based test, you can take the GRE at any time and you will receive your results immediately. I think it's a good idea to plan to take the GRE several months before your application deadline. This will give you a chance to retake it if you're dissatisfied with your score.

Unfortunately, the majority of schools will require a GRE for admission. If you're willing to complete classes online, however, New England College is one program that offers a masters in criminal justice with no GRE test required.
