Wild College Parties
From LoveToKnow College
Wild college parties in today's college setting are more common than ever. These parties may include drinking, loud music and sexual experiences. Those who wish to stay safe when attending these parties should prepare themselves prior to the event. College parties do not have to be dangerous to be fun.
Wild College Parties and Alcohol
Alcohol is often not allowable on most college campuses, but parties off campus regularly have a steady supply. Students over the age of 21 may plan to consume alcohol at these parties. If you do, there are several ways to ensure you remain safe.
- Appoint a Designated Driver: Be sure one person in your group remains sober to safely escort the rest of you home after the party. It is an estimate that 1,400 college students die each year due to alcohol-related incidents.
- Monitor Your Drink: Anytime you do have a drink in your hand, keep a close eye on it. If you notice anyone place anything into your cup or bottle, do not drink from it. Only drink from a bottle that was closed prior to you opening it. Drugs placed in alcohol can lead to dangerous situations.
- Know Your Limit: To keep people from taking advantage of you, know your limit when drinking. Getting drunk can lead to other injuries, sexual encounters you do not want, or embarrassment.
While drinking may be enjoyable to some, it can be life changing when consuming too much at a party. You may even want to ensure no alcohol is present at your party to ensure everyone remains safe.
College Party Hosting
Perhaps you wish to host a wild college party. There are a few things to keep in mind when doing so:
- Avoid inviting too many people. Chances are good that the few friends you do invite will bring someone with them. A party may be more enjoyable with fewer unwanted guests.
- Make food available. Eating a meal or even snacks prior to drinking alcohol (when allowable) can help reduce intoxication.
- Know you are responsible! If something does happen at the party that you are hosting, you could be liable. If the party is at a parent's home, your parent could be legally responsible for injuries, accidents and illegal activity. On a college campus, parties can be grounds for expulsion from school.
- Choose your favorite music to play. If you do not have much to choose from yourself, ask guests to bring their favorite.
- Get help in planning your party. To make the party fun, you should have one or two of your friends help you to plan and execute the party.
- Ask others to bring food and alcohol, as legally appropriate. You do not have to supply everything for the party. In some cases, it can be very expensive to provide everything for your group of friends. Therefore, encourage friends to bring what they plan to drink and eat themselves.
Planning a college party can be fun, as long a you follow the rules and keep yourself out of trouble.
Wild Parties Without Risks
Wild college parties can easily get carried away. Know the risks involved with these parties. If drugs, alcohol or sexual encounters are likely to happen, you may wish to take steps to prevent them. Inform your group of the rules of the party, including what is allowable and what is not. Although this may seem unpopular at first, your friends will still want to spend time with you to avoid the risks associated with an over-the-top party.
If you do plan a wild party and it gets out of hand, have a plan. You may wish to clear the house by informing guests that the police received a call (even if they did not.) You may want to keep unwanted guests out by not allowing them into the house. When things get too far out of control and you are worried about your own or someone else's safety, don't be afraid to alert the authorities. If you are not hosting the party, leaving a dangerous party is a hard, but essential, decision to make.
