Walters State Community College provides secondary education to about 6,000 students in ten, rural East Tennessee counties. The school has four primary campuses including those at Greene, Hamblen, Claiborne and Sevier.

This community college is ideal for those who need training to enter the workforce or those looking for a cost-effective way to complete their first two years of college. With over 70 programs of study, students have the ability to select a program that fits their unique needs and career goals. The school offers university parallel majors and technical education programs, most of which are two-year programs.

  • University Parallel Majors: These programs allow students to earn first and second-year credits that will transfer to other colleges. Students who are planning to attend a four-year college after leaving Walters State will want to consider this program option. Courses are numerous but include animal science, business majors, medical, dental and optometry courses and elementary education.
  • Technical Education Programs: Two and three-year technical degrees prepare students for careers and the job market. The school includes certificate programs here. Some of the courses include workforce preparedness, early childhood education, computer science and fire protection.

Admissions

At Walters State, admission policies make it easy to apply. There is a small processing fee submitted with an application. Students may download and then mail the application in. Students will need to take the ACT or the COMPASS test prior to enrollment. They are not admissions tests, but placement tests. Students may also contact the school's financial aid office. The school offers several options for students who need help paying for school. Scholarship information is also available. Those who live within the school's district will pay less for their education. Those who live out of district or out of state will pay a higher fee to enroll.
