From LoveToKnow College
Sinclair Community College enjoys the status of being one of the twelve Vanguard Learning Colleges in the nation due to their student curriculum and opportunities.
About Sinclair Community College
The college began as night classes offered through the Dayton YMCA in 1887. The classes focused on mechnical drawing and bookkeeping and enrolled just 55 men. The idea behind the classes was to help these men build stronger, brighter futures. Class offerings continued to expand as the Dayton YMCA relocated to larger buildings and gradually became known as the YMCA college. The school was renamed Sinclair College in 1948 after the founder of the educational program.
By 1959, the college was accredited by the State Board of Education in Ohio to offer associate degrees in sciences and arts. Eventually, the Montgomery County Community College District would be founded with Sinclair Community College at the center of it.
The community college continues to win the support of its community and of educators throughout the nation as its programs demonstrate academic excellence with a focus on preparing students for future careers locally and globally. Sinclair received Vanguard status in 2001.
