Point Park University is a liberal arts college located in the heart of Pittsburgh. The college prides itself on the idea that the entire city is a part of the campus and canvas of college life.

About Point Park University

The university takes advantage of its urban setting and roots in downtown Pittsburgh. The college began offering classes in business training in the 1930s. The college would continue to grow to nearly a thousand students before relocating to Academic Hall. It was renamed in honor of the city's Point State Park. In 1960, it received accreditation as a junior college. By 1966, it became an official four-year college and was allowed to award bachelor's degrees.

In 1981, the school established its first graduate programs in journalism and mass communication. Dance and theatre programs were also added along with the opening of the current Conservatory of Performing Arts. By 2004, the college earned university status. From a small technical college to a university, Point Park continues to evolve with the needs of the urban community around it. The college offers a School of Arts and Sciences, Business, Communication and the Conservatory of the Performing Arts. Nearly 4,000 students were enrolled in the 2008-2009 academic year.

Point Park enjoys a top-notch reputation as one of the best schools in the nation for dance, theater and cinema. The Consevatory provides intensive training as well as hands-on experience with community performances.
