Gulf Coast Community College

Gulf Coast Community College opened in 1957 in Panama City, Florida. Gulf Coast is one of 28 public community colleges that opened after the Florida legislature established their network of commuter colleges designed to be located within accessible driving distance to the majority of the population.

The college campus occupies 80 acres overlooking St. Andrew Bay. The college, founded on the idea of equal opportunities for education for all citizens of Florida, continues that tradition by providing flexible scheduling, e-learning, distance education, weekend classes and hybridized classes. Gulf Coast Community College refers to this as "College Your Way".

GCCC offers entire courses and degree programs via their online e-learning schedule. 150 sections offered in the traditional brick-and-mortar campus classrooms are also featured online. The e-Learning department focuses on making education as accessible as possible for those that want to participate. Students interested in the e-learning department and degree programs should contact the e-campus via their website.

Another unique feature of GCCC is the weekend college option. Students who enroll in weekend college will experience accelerated learning over the course of four to six weeks, with most classes meeting on the weekends. Each class varies, but a weekend college schedule would look something like:

• Class on Friday from 6 to 9 p.m.
• Class on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
• Class on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This accelerated learning combines the best of in-person education with speed, allowing students who can meet the grueling schedule an opportunity to complete college their way. Each class is set up differently so be sure to check the college catalog for a course schedule and weekend requirements.
