Eagle Scout Scholarship
From LoveToKnow College
Eagle Scout scholarships reward young men who attain the highest rank within the Boy Scouts of America and continue their legacy of service to others. The Eagle Scouts came into being as a way to keep Boy Scouts who achieved Eagle Scout status engaged. Originally known as the Knights of Dunamis, they officially became the Eagle Scouts in the early 1970s.
About Eagle Scout Scholarships
It is more than an honor to become an Eagle Scout. Recipients of the rank demonstrate a legacy of service and leadership. They are expected to perform at their highest level, distinguishing themselves with continued positive work for both their troops, their community and their country. If an Eagle Scout enlists in the U.S. Armed Forces, he may receive additional ranks within the Eagle Scouts to honor his achievement in service to his country.
The National Eagle Scouts Association administers multiplescholarship opportunities for scouts in all regions. Organizations such as The American Legion, the National Jewish Committee on Scouting and the Sons of the American Revolution also award Eagle Scouts with scholarship opportunities to further their education.
Many local businesses, churches and schools offer grant and scholarship opportunities to Eagle Scouts for their distinguished community service.
Leadership, Service and Commitment
Eagle Scouts are valued for their leadership, service and commitment to excellence. The Eagle Scouts program, created to keep boys engaged in the scouts after they reached Eagle Scout, challenges youths and young men to mentor others, provide community service and work to improve the quality of life in their areas. The organization provides them with fellowship and communication.
One honor that is bestowed rarely upon an Eagle Scout is earned after many additional years of dedicated service. The Distinguished Eagle Scout Award honors those scouts who continue to serve their troops, their community and their country either in their profession or in their devotion to service for the 25 years after earning their Eagle Scout honors.
Scholarship Opportunities
Eagle Scout scholarships are awarded for honorable service, dedication to others and recognized leadership qualities. Most scholarships may be accessed directly through the National Eagle Scout Association Scholarships page. Applications are accepted through January 31st of the academic year previous to the one you are applying for.
To apply for an Eagle Scout’s scholarship, you must:
- Be an Eagle Scout
- Demonstrate a history of service to your community
- Demonstrate academic excellence in your schooling
- Admitted or applying for admission to an undergraduate program
- Recommendations are not required for all scholarships, but do help.
- Meet the individual requirements for the specific scholarships offered under the religious and civic umbrellas
Eagle Scouts demonstrate a high academic success rate due, partially, to the qualities young men must possess to achieve their Eagle Scout Awards and remain dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America and the future of the organization. For many young men, Boy Scouts of America and by extension the Eagle Scouts of America teach them to be proactive and productive citizens of their communities. They learn about the opportunities they can make for themselves and for others. For more information on the Eagle Scouts or Boy Scouts of America, visit their websites.
