About Davidson County Community College

Founded as the Industrial Education Center in 1958, the school helped the local population transition from an agriculturally-based economy to technical or manufacturing jobs. By 1963, the school had 51 students and received the official charter as Davidson County Community College in 1965. As the DCCC, the school began offering Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees and by 1966, transferable course credits were added, allowing DCCC students to move on to four-year universities.

Academics

Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools in 1968, DCCC offers a variety of vocational and educational degrees. The two-year school focuses on preparing students for higher education, career advancement, basic job skills and general education development courses to prepare students to take the GED.

The open door admission policy ensures that all students have access to the general education courses and a higher education. Some programs have specialized admission requirements, particularly those in high-demand fields such as basic law enforcement training, truck driver training and the zoo and aquarium programs.

Student Life

Students enjoy a wide and varied academic and social life on the DCCC campuses. The school supports student government, a Phi Theta Kappa chapter, a pep squad and dance team known as the Storm Chases and multiple other fundraisers, sporting events and more. Students are encouraged to participate in order to build community and professional ties. The campus also offers a free on-site fitness facility to encourage physical health and mental well-being.
