Brevard Community College is a two-year school located in Brevard County, Florida. The school was established in 1960 and has four campuses in Cocoa, Melbourne, Palm Beach and Titusville. The college is only 45 minutes from Orlando and most major attractions in the state. Additionally, the college is minutes from NASA, and as a result, runs a popular aerospace program.
Academics, Financial Aid and Brevard Community College
Brevard CC is most popular for its Associate of Arts degree. However, the school also offers many AS, AAS, and ATD degrees as part of six different schools: Aerospace, Criminal Justice, Health Science, Nursing, Public Safety and Continuing Education. The school provides online learning options and was one of the first institutions in the country to do so. The school is also popular for its low costs--$76.00 per credit hour for residents as of June 2009. The school is well known for its easy credit transfer programs with other Florida schools. These programs allow students to earn associate degrees at Brevard Community College and move on to four-year institutions seamlessly.
Culture
One of the things that Brevard Community College is culturally known for is the Maxwell C. King Center for Performing Arts. The 2,000 seat center on the Melbourne campus is a popular hub for cultural art shows and performances. Brevard CC is also known for operating one of the largest public access telescopes in Florida on the Cocoa campus.
Sports and Alumni
Brevard Community College is home to several sports teams, all bearing the name Titans. There are opportunities to compete in softball, baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's golf and volleyball. The school has many famous alumni, most of them in sports. Past alumni include PGA golfers Paul Azinger and Steve Lamontagne, Major League Baseball players Bruce Bochy, Carlos Reyes, and Sean Wideberg. The school also is the alma mater of House of Representatives member Steve Crisafulli and Saturday Night Live star Darrell Hammond.
