Ashford University
From LoveToKnow College
Ashford University is one of many successful online universities. As the popularity of online education grows, accredited online schools increase their numbers of students, faculty, programs, and course offerings. Ashford University began in Clinton, Iowa in 1918 as Mount St. Clare College and became Ashford University in 2005. Nowadays best known for their online degree programs, Ashford also has a vibrant campus life, sports teams and events, and an on-campus academic experience.
Academics and Ashford University
Academic programs at Ashford University include a variety of Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees; choose from a substantial list ranging from biology to special education classroom teaching.
Ashford prides itself on having small class sizes and offering personalized attention for all students. Of course, the online division of the university has to work harder to achieve this personalized attention, but even the online programs operate under this philosophy of individualized attention for students.
Student Life
Student life at Ashford greatly depends on whether you are one of the students studying on campus in Clinton, Iowa, or if you are one of the thousands of students studying through the online degree programs of Ashford University. If you study on campus, there are activities from sports to student clubs; if you study online, you will largely be left to your own devices as far as entertainment, exercise, and artistic pursuits are concerned. Any student pursuing a degree online will want to look into local recreational opportunities since the online college experience is greatly lacking in student life options.
The Clinton campus offers 18 student organizations. In addition to this, on-campus facilities provide work, artistic, study, and recreational opportunities to students.
Athletics
The 15 sports teams that call Ashford University home are followed by a devoted group of fans. Aside from the requisite basketball and soccer teams, Ashford is also home to volleyball (women's only) and golf (for both men and women), making the university attractive both from an academic, as well as an athletic, perspective.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Sherry! It's always good to hear first-hand accounts from students.
-- Contributed by: LorieI currently am enrolled in Ashford U's BA of Psychology program online. It has been a wonderful experience so far. The faculty at Ashford go above and beyond in answering any questions promptly and in assisting a person in achieving their academic goals. I would highly recommend AU to anyone interested in online academics.
